Tucked in the historic Lazarus Building in downtown Columbus, OSU Urban Arts Space is a gallery space that hosts FREE exhibitions, performances, activities throughout the year.
The experimental galleries adapt to the needs of Ohio State’s arts curriculum, and makes art more accessible.
The space is located in the largest gold-certified LEED renovated building in the region, and features a rooftop garden.
Urban Arts Space also directs Hopkins Hall Gallery, a satellite gallery on Ohio State’s main campus

Arts Scholars Juried Exhibition
January 16 – January 27, 2024
The Juried Art Exhibition highlights work from students participating in The Ohio State University’s Arts Scholars Program.
This exhibition spotlights the program’s talented artists and their personal relationships with the visual arts, celebrating the integral role of the arts regardless of academic or career pursuits.
Engage the Arts
January 8 – February 15, 2024
First-year Arts Scholars experienced and then incorporated various academic discussions, workshops, and tours into the culminating Engage the Arts project.
This multimedia academic exercise encouraged Arts Scholars to do the following: tap into their creative identities, explore new ideas, and work collaboratively in small groups to bring an original story to life through art

Rooftop Garden Tours
Get an up-close look at the gorgeous garden atop the historic Lazarus Building. As a bonus, you’ll also get some dazzling views of Columbus. Take pics of the one-of-a-kind views!
Tours are on 1st Fridays at 2:00 PM on the following dates:

- July 5
- August 2
- September 6
- October 4
Registration is required. (booking begins in late March)
All events and exhibitions are always free and open to the public.
Where should I park for Downtown Columbus Urban Arts Space?
There are three parking garages near Urban Arts Space, as well as metered street parking. Recommended parking garages include:
Ohio Statehouse Parking Garage (Enter from westbound Broad Street or from Third Street). We recommend the Ohio Statehouse Parking Garage on Third Street when accessibility is a concern.
Riffe Center Parking Garage (Enter from Front Street)
Columbus Commons (City Center) Parking Garage
COTA bus and bike trails are also available transportation.

Hopkins Hall Gallery
Hopkins Hall Gallery is a satellite gallery of Urban Arts Space on Ohio State’s main campus.
The space highlights the work of students, faculty, staff, and other campus initiatives that generate collaboration, conversation, and artistic growth.

The Fall 2023–2024 First-Year MFA Show, Convergence, is open to the community from January 29–February 9 in Hopkins Hall Gallery.
The opening reception will be held on Friday, February 2 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
trace layer play 4: Experiencing Research Together

Hopkins Hall Gallery
Join the trace layer play arts-based research collective in exploring the creative research process. We are graduate students and recent alumni from the Department of Arts Administration, Education, and Policy. We embrace the messiness of the research process and invite visitors to explore, experience, and engage with us. Now in our fourth year, we are extending our work beyond the walls of Hopkins Hall Gallery to experiment in new physical and digital spaces.

Ohio Union North Garage/Ohio Union South Garage
Arps Garage
Along the Northern side of Hopkins Hall and 17th Avenue, there is metered parking. This option is recommended if accessible parking is a concern. A ramp into Hopkins Hall is located on the east side of the building in the courtyard between Hopkins Hall and Hayes Hall.
Note: When parking on campus, make sure that you are not parking in a restricted or permitted lot or space; you will be ticketed. COTA bus and bike trails are also available transportation.
