The Scioto Greenways project in downtown Columbus is completed and ready to open for the community on November 10, 2015. The Columbus Downtown Development Corporation invites the public to the Grand Opening of the Scioto Greenways on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. There will be free family-friendly activities along the Lower River Walk, including face painting, live music, caricature artists and more. The river will be active with free canoe and kayak rides (led by Hero USA), The Ohio State Crew team (3:45pm to 4:45pm), and paddle board yoga. The evening will close with a fireworks display at 6:30 p.m.
At 4pm, Guy Worley, CEO/President of project lead Columbus Downtown Development Corporation (CDDC), will be joined by Mayor Michael B. Coleman, representatives from City Council and the Franklin County Commissioners, as well as other project sponsors and supporters for a special dedication. The project started with the removal of of the Main Street Dam in 2013, which restructured the Scioto River and created 33 new acres of greenspace in downtown Columbus near COSI. There are now 75,000 new plants, 800 trees, 22 acres of sod and over 1.5 miles of new bike and walking paths.
The location of the event will be Civic Center Drive, between Town and Broad streets Just West of Ohio Supreme Court Building. There is $1.00 parking at RiverSouth Garage at 232 South Front Street.
