Public Lands is an outdoor specialty store that focuses on exploring outside and protecting America’s public lands. The huge store is owned by Dick’s Sporting Goods, and is located in Polaris.

In addition to outdoor and lifestyle apparel, footwear, and equipment, the 60,000 sq. ft. store features a 30-foot rock wall, an in-store gear repair and rental department and specialized shops dedicated to various outdoor activities including biking, camping, fishing, paddling, climbing, running and hiking.

Associates at Public Lands are passionate about the outdoors and customer service, and protecting public lands. One percent of all sales will go back into local and national conservation efforts.

Special Events at Public Lands in Columbus

Blackout on the Blackstone: Eclipse Viewing + Cookout

April 8, 2024 from 1 pm – 4:30 pm

Public Lands is considered on the edge of the 100% totality path, which makes the parking lot a fantastic viewing area.

They are cooking out on the Blackstone grill starting at 1pm, all the way through the eclipse, stopping around 4pm, offering beef hotdogs, veggie dogs, and fries. All ages welcome. Glasses will be included on a first-come-first-served basis. Details. 

Eclipse start time: 1:55pm. Total eclipse time (total darkness): 3:12pm. Eclipse end time: 4:27pm

Climbing at Public Lands

Arrive 15 minutes prior to your registered time for instructions and gear.

Rental climbing shoes are provided as part of the climbing fee, or you can bring your own. Climbing shoes required. Wait for instruction before putting on shoes.

If slots are all taken, join the in-store wait list. You can shop the store while you wait.

Youth Climb Night Discount

Tuesdays 6 pm and 7 pm

Reserve a 1 hour climb session on the rock wall. There are 5 vertical climbing routes with a bouldering experience available as well! Staff belayer will help you get geared up and spot you during your climb.

Youth ages 6 to 17 get 50% off; 60 min for $9.95! Details/registration. 

Family Climb Night

Fridays discounted 50% off of $19.95. Climb for 60 min for $9.95! Ages 6 and up

Reserve a 1 hour climb session on the rock wall. There are 5 vertical climbing routes with a bouldering experience available as well! The staff belayer will help you get geared up and spot you during your climb.

Weekend Climb

Reserve a 15 minute climb session on our rock wall for just $10. There are 5 vertical climbing routes with a bouldering experience available as well! Climbing guides help with the whole process.
