Get ready for spring with several Plant Sales and Shows at the Franklin Park Conservatory. Think you have a black thumb? Experts will be on hand to help you select the perfect plants and teach you how to care for them. These plant sales are a great place to pick up gifts for Easter, Mother’s Day, or just to add some color and greenery to your own home.
The Retired Plant Sale is March 18-19 from 9 am – 4 pm (3 pm on Sunday). This plant sale will feature plants that were previously on display, including hundreds of Orchids. There will be horticulturists there to answer questions and help you pick the perfect plant. Prices will range from $3-$50.
On April 1 & April 2, the Central Ohio Orchids Society will be hosting their annual Spring Orchid Show and Sale. There will be a variety of orchids in displays from its members and other orchid societies from Ohio. Vendors will also be in attendance offering unusual orchid varieties for sale as well as supplies for the orchid hobbyist and home gardener. Displays and orchids will be awarded by judges sanctioned by the American Orchid Society.
Learn a unique variety of flower arranging with The Ikenobo School of Japanese flower arranging on April 8 & 9, from 10am–5pm. Ikebana has a 500 year history with contemporary floral design. Members of the local chapter will create a variety of traditional and modern flower arrangements using natural materials and reflecting the season.
Go back the next week on April 15 for the Central Ohio Cactus and Succulent Society Sale. There will be a large selection of cactus and succulents of various sizes, plus soil, pots, and decorative rocks. Members from the Society will be able to answer questions about plant selection and care. Cash and checks only. Pick up a unique gift with this easy-care variety!
The Columbus African Violet Society Show and Sale will feature African violets and other gesneriads as both show plants and used in floral designs on April 29 & 30. African violets and gesneriads plants, leaves and cuttings along with potting supplies will be available for sale. That weekend will also feature students from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana and their unique Japanese flower arrangements in the Grand Atrium on April 29–30. The theme for this year’s show is “The Flower Becomes Me.”
Hostas are one of the easiest plants for your yard, and you’ll be inspired with The Central Ohio Hosta Society Leaf Show on May 27. “It’s a Smash Hit,” is a judged show featuring groomed hosta leaves, floral designs featuring hosta leaves, container gardens arranged for effect, a People’s Choice photographic competition, and information about gardening with hostas.
