You probably grew up reading Highlights Magazine as a child from time to time, and if you were lucky, you had a subscription. You may not have realized that Highlights Magazine is based out of Columbus and celebrating it’s 70th anniversary issue. A new documentary, “44 PAGES” follows the creation of the 70th anniversary issue of Highlights, and explores how this essential part of childhood is not only still relevant, but thriving in today’s digital world.
The 90-minute documentary chronicling the history, process and philosophy behind the Highlights brand and the most-read children’s magazine in North America, is coming to Columbus’ Gateway Film Center. “44 PAGES”, directed by Tony Shaff will make its hometown debut at the Gateway Film Center on Thursday, August 31 and will run through September 3, 2017.
A special community screening event will be held Saturday, September 2 starting at 2 p.m. in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Barnes and Noble at the Ohio State University Official Bookstore. The event will include refreshments, giveaways and while supplies last, an opportunity for signed copies of the anniversary issue of Highlights. Following the film screening, attendees can enjoy a talkback discussion with producer Rebecca Green and Highlights for Children CEO Kent Johnson. Moderated by Big Brother Big Sisters of Central Ohio, attendees are encouraged to stay and ask questions about the documentary and Highlights.
