If you’re looking to adopt a cat or dog this year, considering choosing a pet from the CHA Animal Shelter for pet adoption. Not only will you get an animal that has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated; rescued pets can be some of the best and most grateful animals.
CHA Animal Shelter will be hosting several offsite pet adoption events through the end of the year which would be a perfect opportunity to meet your next pet! Note: while the offsite events are called adoption events, you must meet back at CHA to facilitate the adoption.

Why Adopt from a Shelter or Rescue?
Please consider choosing a pet from the CHA Animal Shelter or a local pet foster group like P.A.W.S. or Peace for Paws, rather than from a pet store. Certain pet stores get their dogs from puppies mills and “breeders” that seem legitimate but are actually puppy mills – and they are SO much more expensive.
While some people say that adopting from a store is “rescuing” those animals, it creates supply and demand. The store will just replace that dog with a new puppy mill dog, and the mill will have an open space to fill as well. There are always a variety of breeds and ages of animals available for rescue, so don’t rule out a “pound puppy” because you want a specific breed. When you adopt from the shelter or a foster, you create a space for another dog or cat to be saved.
We adopted our puggle (pictured below) from Peace for Paws foster group. She had been pulled from the animal shelter twice. Her first visit to the shelter was before she was full grown. She was found abandoned or lost and taken to the shelter. A rescue group pulled her for foster, and someone adopted her. That person decided that a dog was too much work, and eventually returned her to the shelter instead of the foster group. Peace for Paws pulled her for foster, and we adopted her after that.
She was fully vetted, crate trained, and her foster family was able to provide information about her behaviors, likes, and dislikes. She was brought for a home visit so the foster group could assess whether she would be a good fit for our family (taking into consideration our plan to have children). And then she was ours. She has been the most amazing dog for the past 7 years.

Yes! I just updated the dates. They weren’t released when I looked last week, but now the yearly schedule has been posted. January 18 in Bexley is the next Pet People date!

Is there a certain location and more recent dates for pet people ?
Val Cannell says
I’m very sorry about your loss. Please contact the shelter or attend one of the events to see if they can help you find a new dog.

We are seniors. We lost our small yorkie dog because it got sick and had to be put to sleep. She had heart trouble. We would like a replacement for our sick dog
