Cooks Illustrated Test Kitchen recently tested 7 Inexpensive Non-Stick Skillets under $50 for non-stick properties, even heating, and durability, comparing them to one of the top brand pans that costs $159.95.
The winner? T-Fal Professional Total Nonstick 12-1/2-Inch Saute Pan, Black is affordable on Amazon (with free Super Saver Shipping). This pan came out on top for cooking eggs, crepes, and meat with no extra fat. This pan has 5 layers of nonstick, is dishwasher safe, oven safe to 350 degrees, and has a Thermo-Spot to show when the pan is adequately preheated, and it came out way ahead of the other pans in the rigorous testing.
So if you’re a fan of the non-stick pan, this one will get you the best bang for your buck. All non-stick pans need to be replaced every couple of years (more or less depending on use), so there’s no sense paying a for an All Clad. I generally use well-seasoned cast iron pans like this one (Lodge Logic L10SK3 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet), but am now considering purchased the T-Fal to have on hand as well. This would also make a great gift for a college student or someone moving out on their own for the first time!
